MEET DR. CLAUDIA STYLES!

Dr. Claudia Styles is a Huntsville, Alabama native and a graduate of Auburn University. After college, she received a Class AA in administration and went on to receive a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University where she conducted extensive research on experience-based learning and the team approach. She has been married for 25 years to Bryan Styles, who is a teacher and coach at Bob Jones High School. They have 3 children together, ages 20, 18, and 15.  Carson is a Sophomore at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) and Presley is a Freshman at Auburn University (War Eagle!). Walker will begin his Freshman year at Bob Jones High School.

Dr. Claudia Styles was a classroom teacher for 8 years and has been an administrator for 19 years in both the middle and elementary settings. In 2007, she was named principal of the newest elementary school in Madison County and in the fall of 2013, she was asked to serve as principal at Mill Creek Elementary School in Madison City.  While at Legacy Elementary School she was able to share her passion for experience-based learning as she implemented a variety of project-based learning structures each receiving state and national recognition. One of the most popular structures includes a ½ acre fully stocked pond with surrounding gardens and a variety of animal habitats. This project has become one of the largest outdoor classrooms in the state of Alabama. In the fall of 2012, she and a team of teachers traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive the INTEL School of Distinction for their innovative math and science programs.

Dr. Styles has taught School Law classes at Tennessee State University and over the past nine years has served as an independent consultant for the Cambium Learning Center and Sopris West Publishing Company. She has presented to school systems all across the U.S. with some of her most memorable training sessions conducted in California, New York, and Washington. Dr. Styles enjoys training teachers and school systems on ways to implement real-world writing and writing across the curriculum. As an advocate of writing she has published several articles and helped create the writing activities for the third edition of the Step-Up-to-Writing curriculum. She has also written and received a variety of grants for her school totaling over $80,000. She has served as the District X officer for the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators (AAESA) and had the unique opportunity to serve as the Speak Up facilitator for the Schools Foundation in the Madison City area. Dr. Styles was recognized in 2011 as the Alfa Principal of the Month for her innovative, outside-the-box programs that she has been able to implement as principal.

After completing 25 years in Alabama, Dr. Styles retired and was given the opportunity to assume the assistant principal position at Fayetteville Middle School. In January 2018, she was given the opportunity to return to the elementary setting to work with Dr. Jones at Ralph Askins.  At Ralph Askins, she has served as a Read to Be Ready Coach/Summer Program Director and has conducted various Summer Bootcamp trainings/webinars as Content Specialist for the Instruction Partners.
